A Little SOA Goes A Long Way
Many organizations make the faulty assumption that SOA is a panacea that can and should be applied to every situation. The reality is that service orientation is not the right answer for every scenario. The expense of service orientation cannot always be recouped and in some cases service orientation can actually do more harm than good. In this talk, Kyle Gabhart will explore the subject of selective service orientation and how to go about effectively governing the service orientation of the enterprise.
Connecting SOA with BRMS
To ensure successful SOA implementation, companies should reconsider how they provide decision services. The unmanageable, black-box approach of wrapping legacy code does not work. BRMS (Business Rules Management System) helps companies meet the SOA promises of reuse and agility with Transparent Decision Services that are truly reusable, modeled by business analysts, maintained by business teams, and managed by IT. BRMS allows externalized decision logic, are modeled and maintained by business teams and analysts, managed by IT, allow automatic auditable capture with extensive reporting, and are easy to repurpose and maintain.

Parasoft Corporation has announced the availability of Parasoft SOAtest 5.5. Parasoft SOAtest 5.5 adds new testing capabilities to its comprehensive and collaborative test suite and is designed specifically to increase productivity and efficiency for development teams working in complex service-oriented architectures (SOA), including those working in the Microsoft .NET environment.
SOA Keynote - Ultimate Purpose for Adopting SOA: To Unleash Enterprise IT Creativity
Miko Matsumura, well known technology advisor, speaker and entrepreneur, and currently Deputy CTO at webMethods Inc., will be giving the Opening Keynote in two weeks' time at the 12th international SOA World Conference & Expo 2007 West, at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco. Inspired by hundreds of real-world SOA projects from across the world, his keynote - entitled 'Time Oriented Architecture: Evolution by Design?' - will illustrate the ultimate purpose for adopting SOA as well as provide a framework about how to understand policies, composites, lifecycle governance, loose coupling, heterogeneous distributed systems, adaptability vs stability, service portfolio management and other aspects of the Intelligently Designed SOA.

Code .NET 2.0, Build Java, Run Linux
Mainsoft CEO Yaacov Cohen says Web Services as a way to get to SOA doesn't work. They've been overused and abused. Mainsoft has released Mainsoft for Java EE 2.0, code that in an earlier avatar was called Visual MainWin for J2EE and lets .NET developers write .NET web and server apps that run on Linux and Java-enabled platforms without rewriting their code or learning new skills. It's been in preview and gone into pilots since last September.
eBay Will Present At SOA World Conference & Expo in New York
Sastry Malladi (pictured), currently a Principal Architect at eBay, driving the SOA architecture for the eBay ecommerce platform, has joined the 2007 Speaker Faculty for the 11th international SOA World 2007 Conference & Expo. He will give a session on 'SOA Deployment Challenges in the Real World' in The Roosevelt Hotel, June 25-27, 2007. 'Service Oriented Architecture concepts have been around for a while and all of the benefits and promises it offers look good on paper,' Malladi notes. 'The complexity of implementing and deploying SOA in large enterprises is, however, often overlooked.'

Mainsoft Develops SOA .NET Portal with IBM
Working with Mainsoft, an independent software vendor/solution provider and IBM business partner, Opal Future Technologies Inc. saved time and money by quickly consolidating eight software pension systems into a single portal or web site while extending and preserving existing software applications built on .NET, a programming language from Microsoft. With Mainsoft Visual Mainwin for J2EE, specifically designed for use with IBM Websphere Portal, Opal quickly translated .NET-based applications into Java applications that run across a variety of software platforms.
